Work has commenced on the $1.7 billion LBJ East project, which will widen and improve Interstate 635 between Central Expressway and Interstate 30 – the Garland area’s busiest traffic corridor.
As part of the rebuild of the Interstate 30 interchange, a major component of the LBJ East project, the I-30 HOV lane was recently closed between Northwest Drive on the Garland side of I-635 and Jim Miller Road in Dallas. I-30 HOV lanes between Jim Miller Road and downtown Dallas will remain open and operate on current schedules.
The HOV/Express managed toll lanes between Oates Drive and TI Boulevard also remain closed until the project is completed. The rebuilt tolled managed lanes will have shoulders and be separated from the main lanes by concrete barriers.
Other short-term closures also impact Garland drivers. Various lanes of westbound I-635 between Plano Road and Greenville Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, July 10. Parts of Forest Lane will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, to Saturday, July 11. The connector ramp from southbound I-635 to eastbound I-30 will close from 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 19.
