Full Shutdowns of I-30 Set as Work Continues on $1.7 Billion 635 East Project

635 East - Ways to Stay Connected Graphic_360x250

Full overnight shutdowns of Interstate 30 and the connector ramps between I-30 and Interstate 635 are planned through this weekend. The rebuild of the interchange is a major component of the ongoing $1.7 billion LBJ East project.

The LBJ East project will widen and improve Interstate 635 between Central Expressway and Interstate 30 – the Garland area’s busiest traffic corridor.

The connector ramp from southbound I-635 to eastbound I-30 will be closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, and again from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. The connector ramp from westbound I-30 to northbound I-635 will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, and again from 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The eastbound I-30 direct connector to northbound I-635 will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The connector ramp from southbound I-635 to westbound I-30 will be closed from 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12.

Both connector ramps from I-635 to eastbound I-30 will close at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 and reopen at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. That same overnight, all lanes of eastbound I-30 and various lanes of westbound I-30 will close at Galloway Avenue in Mesquite.

Both westbound I-30 connector ramps to I-635 will close at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 and reopen at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11. That same overnight, all lanes of westbound I-30 and various lanes of eastbound I-30 will close at Galloway.

Lanes along both directions of I-635 are closed overnights through Sunday, Oct. 11. Also, a new traffic pattern for both directions of Skillman Street at I-635 takes effect Tuesday, Oct. 6. Pay attention to signage designating new lane configurations.

Also near the interchange, the Northwest Drive entrance ramp to westbound I-30 and the eastbound I-30 exit to Northwest Drive have been closed permanently. The I-30 HOV lane is closed between Northwest Drive on the Garland side of I-635 and Jim Miller Road in Dallas. I-30 HOV lanes between Jim Miller Road and downtown Dallas remain open. The HOV/Express managed toll lanes between Oates Drive and TI Boulevard also remain closed until the project is completed. The rebuilt tolled managed lanes will have shoulders and be separated from the main lanes by concrete barriers.
