Art Explorers: Kahlo-Inspired Self-Portraits at the Walnut Creek Branch Library

Saturday, October 5, 2019

Children ages 6 through 12 can celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by making Frida Kahlo-inspired self-portraits at Art Explorers.

Attendees at the October event will learn about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and the 55 self-portraits she created. Participants will also be instructed on how to draw their own self-portraits and will be encouraged to incorporate elements such as nature, animals, and their own unique personalities into their art. Once the drawings are complete, the artists will use color pastels to add the bold pops of color frequently seen in Mexican folk art.

2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5
Walnut Creek Branch Library
Registration opens Saturday, Sept. 21.

Children attending Art Explorers learn about different types of art, then develop their STEAM art skills by creating their own masterpieces. Registration is required to attend each Art Explorer program and is limited to 24 participants.  All supplies are provided by the library.
