City of Garland Earns Lone Star Regional Emmy® Award

PMR Emmy 360x250

The City of Garland’s Public & Media Relations Department was recognized by the City Council Tuesday, March 1, for the Lone Star Regional Emmy® earned by its video “A Look Back at The Wall That Heals.”

The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, along with a mobile Education Center, that travels throughout the country. It honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed forces in the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,276 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. The traveling exhibit allows thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing the memorial to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin.

In November 2019, Garland was named as the only North Texas stop for the 2020 The Wall That Heals tour. The exhibit was on display at Audubon Park from Feb. 27 through March 1, 2020, and attracted more than 13,000 visitors from across the state and beyond who paid their respects.

Starting with The Wall That Heals arrival, setup, opening and official ceremony, and ending with its disassembly and departure, the City’s video comprehensively covered the event throughout the visit. The video was entered in the 2021 Lone Star Regional Emmy® Awards.

You can watch the video on the City’s YouTube channel.
