Garland’s Community Development Department was recognized by the National Community Development Association (NCDA) with a Certificate of Distinction for its effort in providing a home to an Army veteran on Veterans Day 2021.
The award recognizes exemplary uses of federal funding and, specifically, the partnerships with non-profit and for-profit entities that local governments develop to assist low-income persons.
The City is regularly cited by NCDA for its exemplary uses of federal housing money and its partnerships to assist low-income persons. By recommendation from HUD, NDCA reached out to Garland to help develop a curriculum for other large municipalities on how to run a successful mortgage program.
NCDA is a nonpartisan national organization comprised of more than 400 local governments that administer federally-supported community development, economic development and affordable housing programs.
